Sweet Azerbaijani cookies : Sheker Chorek

Sweet Azerbaijani cookies : Sheker Chorek

Here is the recipe for Sheker chorek , which is one of the sweet varieties of Azerbaijani local desserts.

As you can see, they are like cookies, so anyone can bake them with no difficulty. So let’s get to the recipe!

Necessary products:
  • 600 gr. flour
  • 250 gr. butter or margarine
  • 200 gr. sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 egg yolk (for the decoration)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • pinch of salt

This results in approximately 26 pieces, which are baked at 180 degrees Celsius for approximately 10 minutes. Thus, not only is it easy, but it is also quick!

How to prepare:

First, you have to beat the egg white with a pinch of salt until it is a thick, creamy consistency.(Would you like to make this dish together? You then add the butter and sugar, mixing it all together until you can hardly notice the grainy sugar. Lastly, you add in the dry ingredients, but bit by bit, to avoid adding too much flour. After a while you will have to start using your hands to make the dough, rather than a whisk/mixer. The dough has to be thick enough to be able to make small balls, so if you feel like it is a little sticky, then continue adding in more flour.

Once the dough is ready, simply make small balls and then add a drop of egg yolk on the tip of each ball. You will then have a sweet pastry perfect for teatime!
